A Message From Board Chair John King – Engagement With City of Austin Boards and Commissions

Dear AYC Members,

Over the past few months, you have heard from us regarding engagement with City of Austin Boards and Commissions. As an organization, we have heard the call to action from our Mayor and City Council Members, and we are advocating on behalf of our members who want to get involved as leaders in the civic process.

Earlier this month, I addressed City Council to encourage them to consider appointing our members, and young professionals throughout Austin, who have applied for Board and Commission service. There are currently hundreds of appointments to be made before July 1st, and a high volume of inquiries from interested applicants, current board members, Council staff, and supporting department liaisons. We want to be sure that your voice is heard and that the Mayor and Council Members are aware of your application and your unique qualifications.

With the deadline for Council to appointments fast approaching, there is opportunity for you to get engaged in our city’s civic process. If you have not already, we encouraged all of our members who are interested to apply online through the City website as soon as possible. Once you have applied, or if you already have applied, please fill out this short form by the end of the day, Wednesday, June 3rd, to let us know that you have submitted your responses. We will be using this information to contact the Mayor and Council Offices on your behalf, this week.

If you have any questions, problems, or comments, then please email our Executive Director, Matt@AustinYoungChamber.org, or our Board Chair, John King, Chair@AustinYoungChamber.org.

Please feel free to share this email and thank you in advance for stepping up to be a leader in our community!

Sincerely,

John King
Board Chair
