Public Policy Primer: The Most Important Issues Facing Austin presented by AYC, the Austin Monitor, and Glasshouse Policy

Presented by the Austin Young Chamber, the Austin Monitor, and Glasshouse Policy, an insider’s look at the current political situation in Austin, Texas. Join a panel of experts and dive deep into the issues surrounding of transportation, affordability, education, and technology and what we can do to fix them.

Panelist include:
Julio Gonzalez Altamirano is a community activist that has served as a leader of several Austin grassroots organizations including Open Austin, AURA, and the Metro Austin Policymaker Assessment (MAPA). He writes about Central Texas governance at “Keep Austin Wonky”, a blog focused on Austin public policy debates. He is originally from McAllen, Texas. A graduate of Yale and the Stanford Graduate School of Business, Julio works in the business intelligence software industry.

Jason will be covering ‘The Top Mistakes made by Startups” which will be an engaging discussion on the top mistakes that small to medium companies make as it relates to employment.

About the Speaker: Jason Herrington, Senior Human Capital Consultant, provides best practice HR advice and consulting to small-to-medium size companies across the US. Jason currently works for TriNet and serves clients in various industries including technology, life sciences, and professional services by effectively resolving complex HR issues in order to best mitigate risk and to ensure compliance.

Jason holds an M.S. in Counseling Psychology from Abilene Christian University and is certified as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) by the HR Certification Institute and a SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) by the Society for Human Resource Management.

New Member Coffee & Networking provides a casual environment to talk with AYC Board, Staff and Ambassadors and to get to know one another over a cup of joe. You’ll have the opportunity to learn more about AYC, Committees, and how to get more involved in the organization.

Ronald McDonald House Dinner Volunteer Event

Leadership Service Committee

This months meeting is going to be a “2016 Brainstorming Session” at Icenhauer’s on Rainey Street! At this meeting, we want to evaluate our 2015 year and discuss how we envision the committee for 2016. Let’s put our ideas and brains together and make the 2016 LSC the best yet!

If you’re interested in becoming more involved with AYC, check out the Leadership Service Committee. The LSC gives AYC members the opportunity to give back to the community throughout the year through service. This committee meets monthly and does additional community service events for AYC members.

Economic Development Committee presents Sound Check with CodeNEXT: The City of Austin’s Re-zoning Initiative

Concerned about a lack of affordable places to live? Want to help shape the framework of the Austin we will inherit? Join the AYC’s Economic Development Committee for an outing to CodeNEXT’s Sound Check. CodeNEXT is the City of Austin initiative to revise the Land Development Code, which determines how land can be used throughout the city – including what can be built, where it can be built, and how much can (and cannot) be built. The process is a collaboration between Austin’s residents, business community, and civic institutions to align our land use standards and regulations with what is important to the community. This initiative will directly affect how Austin looks and operates, and they need to hear the voices of our city’s youth. Come learn about and guide the growth of our great city.

Economic Development Committee presents City Hall Field Trip featuring Councilmember Greg Casar

Regulations and ordinances passed at City Hall affect more than you could imagine. AYC’s Economic Development Committee would like to provide you the opportunity to hear directly from one of our city’s Councilmembers on current policy initiatives and how to bring about the change you would like to see. Join Councilmember Greg Casar for a meet and greet and presentation on our city government’s structure and issues the Councilmember, including his “Ban the Box” initiative. Let your voice be heard!

NFL Watch Party & Holiday Toy Drive with AYC and GenNext Presented by BlackFinn Ameripub

Join the Austin Young Chamber and Dell’s young professional group, GenNext, for a co-hosted happy hour/NFL watch party and Holiday Toy Drive to network together and relax after a long day’s work. Take some time to meet up with old friends and make new connections. We will have light appetizers provided by BlackFinn so get there early!

The game starts at 7:25pm (Packers vs. Lions). We wil be in a semi-private area with TV’s for the game and are welcome to stay in the same area for the game as well. Please bring an unwrapped toy for children ages 0-18 who are in need of our assistance to make their holiday special. We are looking for new toys, books, board games, stuffed animals, and/or aged appropriate items for 13-18 year olds.
