DESCRIPTION:Join AYC on Thursday May 24th at the Austin Chamber of Commerce's new offices for our monthly speaker series\, featuring Isaac Barchas\, Director of the Austin Technology Incubator.  He will speak about entrepreneurship\, innovation and the Austin Technology Incubator.    Isaac Barchas took over as the head of ATI in April\, 2006. He works with companies across all of the ATI verticals - IT\, Wireless\, and Clean Energy. In addition\, he is responsible for ATI's strategic direction and for evolving the ATI economic model. He also supports the global commercialization programs run out of the IC2 Institute. Prior to joining ATI\, Isaac worked with McKinsey & Company\, an international management consultancy\, for 8 years. His practice focused on business building (start-up and spin-out support) in a variety of industries\, including biotechnology\, software\, wireless telecoms\, and Internet retail. He was also one of the leaders of McKinsey's North American healthcare practice. He was a member of the McKinsey offices in Chicago\, Sydney\, Auckland\, Dallas\, and London. Isaac has also published in the Washington Post\, the Wall Street Journal\, and the Chicago Tribune\, among other outlets. Isaac did his undergraduate work at Stanford University\, and then went on to the University of Chicago for his master's and law degrees. DESCRIPTION:Join the AYC and TX Army ROTC Leadership Series for a special speaking engagement with former super lobbyist Jack Abramoff.    The AYC and Texas Army ROTC Leadership Series will be opening up seats for their last speaker series luncheon with Jack Abramoff\, who will be speaking on the topic of "Toxic Leadership and Ethical Decision Making". Jack Abramoff is a former lobbyist\, businessman\, movie producer and writer. He was at the heart of an extensive corruption investigation that led to his conviction and to 21 persons either pleading guilty or being found guilty\, including White House officials J. Steven Griles and David Safavian\, U.S. Representative Bob Ney\, and nine other lobbyists and Congressional aides.    In January 2006\, he was sentenced to six years in federal prison for mail fraud\, conspiracy to bribe public officials\, and tax evasion. He served four years before being released on December 3\, 2010. After his release from prison\, he wrote the book Capitol Punishment: The Hard Truth About Corruption From America's Most Notorious Lobbyist which was published in November 2011.    Abramoff's lobbying and the surrounding scandals and investigation are the subject of two 2010 films: the documentary Casino Jack and the United States of Money\, released in May 2010\, and the feature film Casino Jack\, released on December 17\, 2010\, starring Kevin Spacey as Abramoff. Thanks to energy efficiency improvements\, The University of Texas at Austin’s power plant uses roughly the same amount of fuel as it did in 1977 — yet it produces about twice the power and serves almost twice the square-footage in building space. Over $150 million in efficiency improvements were paid for by savings from reduced fuel costs. In addition to saving the university money\, increased efficiency has reduced CO2 emissions from power generation by about 100\,000 tons. DESCRIPTION:On December 2nd\, the Austin Young Chamber community committee will be providing dinner for the families staying at Ronald McDonald House Charities during their children’s treatment at Austin-area medical centers.            The Meal Provider Program is the most popular volunteer project at the Ronald McDonald House (RMH).  Volunteer groups prepare lunch & dinner for the families staying at the RMH each day and families often comment that this is one of the biggest ways they are supported during their children’s medical treatments.     After dinner is prepared\, AYC members will meet up at Contigo Austin for some drinks and appetizers.  Come out to help give these families a nice home-cooked meal and begin the weekend with a drink at Contigo Austin afterwards! DESCRIPTION:The Austin Young Chamber of Commerce (AYC) and the University of Texas Army ROTC Department have partnered to develop a leadership course for young professionals and Senior ROTC Cadets to inspire students and young professionals in their efforts to address the challenges of this\, and future generations. The leadership course will run through the Spring 2012 semester\, in a series of seven classes followed by a luncheon with a featured speaker.    The purpose of the leadership series is to provide UT Cadets and AYC members the opportunity to learn first-hand from today’s foremost business and military officials about the principles of leadership that transcend industries\, ethnicities\, age groups and business models. Every first and third Thursday of the month\, select AYC members will be invited to join Lt. Colonel Joseph Kopser’s morning ROTC leadership course\, which will be followed by an on-campus luncheon with a prominent business leader or government official.    AYC members are encouraged apply through the short application form below.  Those accepted into the program will attend at no cost\, which is made possible by our program sponsor\, Texas Gas Service. If you have any questions\, you can contact AYC’s Executive Director Melanie Plummer at melanie@austinyoungchamber.org.    Your application will be reviewed by a diverse and anonymous selection committee.  Applicants will be notified of their application status no later than January 15\, 2012.
